about

Alawon o Ddyffryn Peris; Bwlch Llanberis sydd yn cychwyn y set a Moel yr Wyddfa i’w gorffen, gyda hen benillion wedi eu gosod ar alaw gan Nial yn y canol. Trigai Margiad ych Ifan ym Mhenllyn, Brynrefail ac mae hanesion amdani yn dal ar gof yn lleol. Dywedir ei bod hi’n gryfach na’r ddau ddyn cryfaf yn y sir a bod ei chŵn hela yn dal mwy na chŵn yr holl foneddigion. Gweithiai fel gof a byddai’n rhwyfo llwythi o fwyn copr ar yr Wyddfa ar draws Llyn Padarn. Roedd hi hefyd yn saer telynau a gallai canu’r delyn a chyfansoddi alawon.

Margiad ych Ifan, famous eighteenth century strong woman, blacksmith, harp and fiddle maker who's efail - smithy - was at Brynrefail also had a sideline rowing slate and copper ore down lakes Peris and Padarn, and her large-than-life character is remembered in these verses.
